Mantan juara dunia MotoGP 2006, Nicky Hayden, mengembuskan napas terakhir, Senin (22/5/2017), pada usia 35 tahun. Hayden cedera berat di kepala, dada, dan patah tulang kaki setelah mengalami kecelakaan, Rabu (17/5/2017).
Ia tertabrak mobil ketika tengan bersepeda sebelah selatan daerah Rimini, Italia. Setelah lima hari bertahan, Rumah Sakit Maurizio Bufalini, tempat di mana Hayden dirawat dan Tim Honda Racing mengonfirmasi kepergian pebalap berjulukan The Kentucky Kid.
Kabar meninggalnya Hayden dengan cepat menuai respons dari banyak kalangan. Termasuk para jagoan di lintasan balap paling bergengsi dunia. Juga mantan rekan setimnya di tim Ducati MotoGP, Casey Stoner.
Hayden masih berstatus pebalap Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team dan berlaga di pentas World Superbika (WSBK).
